THE GOOD- Several Division Wins,
Drafting a Franchise Quarterback
Everyone in Houston seemed to
be Anti Bill O’Brien. Meanwhile, I'm looking at how in his first 5 years
of coaching, he had a better record than Bill Belichick, Bill Walsh, and Bill
Parcells. We were coming out of a horrific injury ladened season that led
to us going 2-14 and BOOM, the Bill O'Brien era was formed. Struggling to
find a quarterback, we were so close and yet so far. A couple of years
with a high ranked defense seemed to disappear along with the offensive line
once Duane Brown left, and Deshaun Watson entered the building. Rick
Smith and Bill O'Brien's feud popped up out of nowhere, and then Bill O'Brien
won ALL THE POWER, SUPPOSEDLY.
The Bad - Several failed
attempts at GM, Sued by the Patriots
We were deemed Patriot's South,
but I think the part that no one is looking at is how the Patriot's divided
into Patriot's East and West. Tom Brady, the Goat, made the decision to
leave the franchise that he had won and appeared in so many Superbowls.
Caserio who was blocked to go to the Texans 2 years ago, was literally FORCED
to remain with the organization that he had been with the last 20 years.
The Patriots who had been picking last in the first round for so many years,
struggled to put talent around Brady those 2 years that Caserio was forced to
stay, and Brady who had for so many years taken pay cuts to put talent around
him, had had enough with them. Losing in the Wild Card, and then leaving
to win a Superbowl with Tampa, pretty much solidified his title as the
GOAT. But was this a divide in the dynasty that dominated the league for
so long? Were there people like Josh McDaniels, who turned down an offer
he accepted to go to Indy, in a very Bill Belichicky kind of way, be vying to
replace Bill Belichick in the coach’s seat? Who knows, what I do know is
that Bill Belichick has not sued to keep one coach. Let them ALL go, and
not one of them have had any success. Including that Brian Flores who has
had a litany of picks, including a huge one wasted on Tua Tagovailoa. Granted one might ask if the pick was wasted on Tua, or if Tua is being wasted under Flores. I
think there was a line drawn in the sand by Brady for those that stayed and those
that left. Creating Patriots East and West. I also think that
Caserio and Brady are a part of the west, that will eventually turn into Tom
Brady retiring and immediately becoming the next coach of the Houston Texans. READ THAT AGAIN!
The Ugly - Bill O'Brien trying to
get Fired, Jack Easterby rise to Power, Franchise Quarterback and Wide Receiver
gone and all but gone.
I honestly started this
blog after the preseason looking at how horrible of a direction that Jack
Easterby had led this organization, especially after Bill Belichick said that
Jack was NOT a Personnel guy. Bill
Belichick on Jack Easterby But every week has seemed to produce
new information. If I really think about it, since the Patriot's sued
this organization, no one else was put in charge. Brian Gain was fired,
and someone with no personnel experience was making decisions. Or WAS
HE? I think you must ask yourself if he was making moves as a proxy
through Caserio, who had probably his worse 2 years as a Patriot.
Easterby Getting rid of arguably the best Wide Receiver in the game, literally
starting the wash of people like long time beloved Texan JJ Watt, taking credit
for that so that Caserio could come in clean would solidify your job with the
new boss. Knowing that this is the same regime that started with running
the Texan GOAT Andre Johnson out of this organization, TWICE, one must wonder
how Easterby keeps climbing the ladder in the organization. Then the news
of Bill O'Brien trying to get fired, has really soured my view of what I felt
was a huge change of direction and shift into the shadow that had covered this
organization with the racist undertones of the original owner Bob McNair.
Multiple conversations with African American players and coaches, but more
importantly Bill O'Brien kneeling with the players, truly made me feel like the
organization had made a shift. What a change from the inmates running the prison, now the coach is standing with them on views of social justice. So when you hear that he was trying to get fired, there wouldn't be a better way to start that process than doing things that ownership frowns upon. Now the latest with Cal McNair calling the
pandemic the "China Virus", truly made me look back at my
timeline. I firmly believed at the time, and even more now, that the
final straw was Bill O'Brien bringing in Earl Thomas. Someone that this
organization would never look at, even prior to his incident with the
Ravens. Arguing with JJ Watt, and Earl Thomas becoming available was just
the perfect storm for Bill O'Brien to exit stage left, still get paid, and go
on to coach for the Best College coach in the game.
Good News - Astros seem headed
to another World Series, Can the Texans Follow Suit?
Look, I'm not mad at the moves
Caserio has made. In fact, I think everyone needs to be on the trade
block when you look at the Astros and how they owned the fact that they were
going to be in rebuild mode and then they drafted their asses off and brought
in amazing young talent to build a champion. I remember being horrified at the news that we would be moving to the American League to compete with the Yankees etc. Now they are our Bitch. READ THAT AGAIN! The Houston Texans for the
last 10 years have been trying not to rebuild, never getting any good free
agents to come our way, and as an organization right now, you will not be
getting any good free agents to come to this circus anytime soon. So,
starting with Tunsil, and on through Tyrod, Tytus Howard, Justin Reid, and
others, we need as many draft picks as possible in all rounds that we can
combine and get up into the second and first rounds. Stop lying to the
fans that you will compete. Lower ticket prices and let's get people to
the games that have never been able to afford to go. Double check all
your emails NOW, and if you have ANY thing to apologize, you BETTER get in front of it STAT.
Because right now, as a fan, we continue to get led to believe that we are
going to compete trotting out David Johnson and Davis Mills who can't even get
on the same page to hand the ball off correctly. Let's own the fact that
we need to Suck to Pluck every single draft pick possible to rebuild this team
with youth. Because if not, the Roughneck's will become the dominant
Football Team in Houston, and if the NFL isn't careful with all this ownership
and coach race related issues, the XFL could start to pull significant talent,
both coaches and players.
The Timeline
Let's look at the time line
- June 7, 2019 Texans fire Brian Gaine after one season.
- Lorenzo Reyes reported on June 12, 2019 "Easterby was in attendance for the Patriots' Super Bowl ring presentation ceremony held last Thursday night at the home of franchise owner Robert Kraft. Gaine was dismissed from his role the following day."
- June 12, 2019 New England Patriots file tampering charges against the Texans.
- January 28, 2020 Bleacher Report's Tim Conway reports "This is the way we've been operating for the last eight months. They led us to a 10-win season, another division title and into the divisional round. Our goal is to win championships," McNair told reporters Tuesday.
- March 16, 2020 Houston Texans trade De'Andre Hopkins
- June 19, 2020 John McClain reports Bill O'Brien defends taking a knee during the National Anthem. “Yeah, I’ll take a knee — I’m all for it,” O’Brien said. “The players have a right to protest, a right to be heard and a right to be who they are. They’re not taking a knee because they’re against our flag. They’re taking a knee because they haven’t been treated equally in this country for over 400 years.
- August 23, 2020 Baltimore Ravens release Earl Thomas for conduct Detrimental to the team
- September 23, 2020 Adam Schefter tweets that Thomas is in town meeting with the Texans and “signing this week is more likely than not”
- September 30, 2020 O'Brien cancels meeting with Earl Thomas, and to be fair, several others working out due to "Covid". I was unable to find out if the others were able to work out at a later date, but I know Earl Thomas never got another work out because.............
- October 5, 2020 Bill O'brien was fired citing an 0-4 start. This was a bit weird considering after starting 0-3 and making the playoffs winning 11 out of the next 14 in 2018.
- January 5, 2021 Texans Hire Nick Caserio.
