Just Give Up Already, O'Brien's job question the icing on the cake, #8MileBrock

Well according to everyone in and out of Houston, and especially in New England, the Texans should have not left Kirby drive.  The biggest slap in the face here is that even after being named the #1 defense, no one thinks we have a dog in the race.  In fact, it is to the point of severe disrespect.  The NFL network allowed grown men to "fake" pray for the Texans as the only way they would have a shot.  Nick Wright former Houston sports guy wouldn't even say 2 words about Brock when discussing the quarterbacks in the playoffs.  With that being said there is absolutely a formula for winning this game.  EVERYONE will have to do their job.  But more importantly it will be crucial for people not named Duane Brown, DeAndre Hopkins, Clowney, Mercilus, to have a good game.  DJ Reader, Covington, Fuller V, Miller, Grimes, Blue on special teams, will all need to play the game of their lives.  Brock doesn't have to do much.  People like Trent Dilfer has a super bowl ring.  We will have to make sure that we do not allow the Patriot running backs to be a big part of the passing game.  Saying we need to hit and pressure Brady is obvious.  But we need to come in with an edge.  We need to come in there and punch them in the mouth early.  Novak has to be money, and it needs to be within a score at halftime.  Defense doesn't allow touchdowns in the second half to anyone we've played.  I've mentioned that all year.  

Dear Bill, we want you to come take over this 2-14 team.  We would like for you to turn them around quick.  Almost make the playoffs the first year.  Then take the division the next 2 years.  By the way, we will give you some pretty mediocre QB's in the process, but we still want you to win.  In your 3rd year, we will give JJ the year off, but we will not allow you to make that an excuse.  We want you to finish #1 in total defense.  Then we want you to actually win your 2nd playoff game.  But don't worry about your 3rd, that'll be against Brady.  So need to try on that one.  Oh by the way, we will pay your 3rd year quarterback 70 million.  After all this, we will question your job, and there will be rumors that we want to get rid of you!  Said no one EVER!!!!  Look I told you at the beginning of the year that this would come down to coaching.  I was wrong about the coach that would be fired and who would finish last.  But I was not wrong about who would be competing for the division.  The only way Bill leaves the Texans next year is if Brady wins the super bowl and him and Belichick retires together and names O'Brien his replacement.  I'll even throw something else crazy out there, just to say you heard it here first.  I think it will be hard for Godsey to continue as the OC.  Especially if the offense stinks it up tonight.  But could Chip Kelly, if he doesn't get the Cal job, come and work with O'Brien to finally help the offense start fast?  Could our players be the perfect fit, being young and fast, to be able to keep up with that?  Could Kelly adjust to a game plan offense, but add just the right mix to what O'Brien wants to do?  Crazier things have happen. Just know I said it here, he is rumored to possibly end up in New England.

Look this game it set up to be a massacre.  But I have us winning 23-17.  With 3 field goals from Novak and a defensive score.  If Brock throws an INT, it will be important that the defense continue to eat and turn Brady over.  If we turn Brady over, we have an opportunity to win.  Looking at the season, I honestly felt that O'Brien treated some of the biggest games as bye weeks on short weeks.  Especially preparing more for divisional opponents.  The Patriots was one of them.  We had the Patriots on 4 days rest, followed by Titans and Colts.  We then had the Vikings followed by the Colts.  Then Denver on short rest followed by the Lions at home.  Meanwhile the Patriots played teams like Bills, Bengals, 49ers, Rams, and Jets.  Not there fault, but playing the number one defense should not be as easy as everyone is making it out to be.  I LOVE MY TEXANS AND I HOPE THEY BEAT THE DOG SHYT OUT OF THE PATRIOTS AND TALK MAJOR SMACK TO EVERYONE!

There couldn't be a bigger chip built for Brock's shoulder.  No one, including most in Houston, are giving him a shot.  But the truth is Brock could not have written a better situation for him.  With everyone in the NFL, and heck maybe even some of his own family members counting him out, there couldn't be a better opportunity to slap the world in their face by coming out and lighting up the field.  Not with lasers, but how about 3 touchdowns, no interceptions, and 310 yards.  But seriously, this guy is the same person that sat behind Peyton Manning.  He is the same guy that beat the Patriots in Denver last year.  This is the same guy that moved the ball all preseason, and the first 2 games of the season.  This is the only quarterback in the AFC playoffs that has been on a Superbowl run, not named Brady, or Roethlisberger.  Looking at those games, the ball was coming out quick, but also Brock's step back was only a step or two.  I've seen recently where he was taking some pretty large steps back after the snap.  Getting the ball out fast in this offense is so important.  But what if he is who they thought he was?  What if he marches the offense down the field.  Throws CJ to his biggest game of the year.  All of a sudden there is a tight end #87 eating up the end zone not name Gronk?  I'll be the first to tell you that I've been very disappointed with the offensive production this year.  But I can not ignore my own observations over the season, which were:

1.  7 out of 11 of the offensive starters are brand new to the system or and are rookies.
2.  The average age, including Duane Brown and Chris Clark is 25.
3.  Injuries to our Center and 2 of our young receivers Strong and Braxton hurt tremendously.  Strong was set to have a break out year.  Add a hamstring with Will Fuller, no receivers are getting separation.

But we all know those are excuses and excuses are the terms of incompetence and they build monuments of nothing!  I just hope Brock puts on his headphones and a hoodie and come out ready to ball.  We don't need heroics.  No interceptions are the biggest key, but we have to score touchdowns and not field goals.  Janakowski can probably kick it from Discovery Green straight through the up rights.  Touchdowns, Touchdowns, ARE KEY!

Look there is not much more to say about this game.  But what I'm most excited about is that you have not seen all of our super stars on defense on the field at the same time since early in the season.  Couple of games we were all the way down to Charles James and Nelson Jr.  We were Clowney, but no Mercilus, Mercilus, but no J Jo.  Not having John Simon is disappointing, but this is as close to 100% that the Texans have been on defense all season.  Couldn't come at a better time.  Here is to hoping Brock comes out and just blows this offense out of the water.  I looked at the entire season only to find that he never threw for 300 yards.  But the major key I saw last game was we started moving DHop around the field.  Much like we did Andre Johnson.  Andre never had a hall of fame quarterback throwing to him.  But he found a way to get open.  They put him in the slot, motioned him out of the back field.  He caught middle of the field passes, side line passes, etc.  This is some of what I saw last week against the Titans.  We could have absolutely won that game if we wanted to by putting in our starters.  This team has talent and to be completely disregarded and counted out is both disrespectful as it is disappointing.  I'm a Texans fan for life and I can only hope that our crowd is smart enough to know that Brock may absolutely throw an interception, it happens to the best of them.  But the crowd can't get taken out of the game.  We MUST stay loud, get in there early, and keep the home field advantage.

 

Coach O'Brien has made it clear who the heart of this defense is.  Brian Cushing has been a work horse for this team since coming into the league.  He has always gone 1000 percent for this team and several of his seasons were limited by injury.  The fact that he has being playing all year with back problems etc. speaks so much to his heart and what he's about.  I remember the 2-14 season where we were down in the 4th quarter and his interception against the Chargers ignited the team and the win.  His interviews have always been the same.  ABOUT THE TEAM.  ABOUT WINNING, AND RESPECT OF HIS TEAMMATES.  But even with all that about the team his work with the men and women that serve our country is just the icing on the cake.  I hope you join me in voting for Brian to be the Walter Payton Man of the year by tweeting the hash tag #CushingWPMOYChallenge over and over and over again.  Brian deserves this award and I salute both him and the foundation that bares his name.
