It has been a while since I have
put paper to pen, but with the Chief's game finally being played today, I am
reminiscent on the butt whipping we received last year, and how high our hopes
of finally making it to the championship game were just obliterated in the
second half by a Chief's team that went on to win it all. I was one of
the few people who did not feel Bill O’Brien was our problem. As much as
we hated him, and as slow as the team started every season, we actually
mirrored the Patriots of building and getting stronger throughout the
season. In OB's tenure, he actually only loss about 4 games after the bye
week, minus the season that 4 got injured. I truly feel he treated the
first 4 games like preseason games, and where his firing came as a surprise to
most (We all complained but no one really thought Cal would actually pull the
plug) leaving his brain trust made zero sense, until BAM in comes
Caserio.
When I look back on Caserio's
role with the Patriots, and I look at some of the free agent signings in Moss,
Ochocinco, Harrison, and others, I do not see someone who is afraid of bringing
in an Antonio Brown, Josh Gordon type players. So surely, dealing with
Dhop's baby mothers would not be a deal breaker for a player. But I do
not think anyone is talking about how there has been a mass exodus out of
Patriot Central, and it all started after they blocked the hire of Caserio to
Houston a couple of years back. Patriots never had an issue getting
players around Brady. And to Russ who said any player could be plugged
into a system, did not watch the Patriots implode this year without Brady, and
watched Brady make it to Championship Sunday with Leonard Fornette in the
backfield.
I say that to say that the
Texans are on the verge after today of tearing apart a city, or putting
together the best of two systems, that could turn into the juggernaut of the
AFC. This team needs to upgrade on defense. Getting some players
later in the years like JJ to anchor the defense, and seriously upgrade the
secondary will be key. If you can get a Kareem Jackson back to Houston,
and take a run at Shaquille Griffin, even the veteran Richard Sherman to get
some leadership in the secondary could prove to be key. Sherman has
already come out and said Deshaun should leave, but if you can hire EB and
convinced players that chaplains will not be running the squad, you could
completely turn this thing around. The only team we loss to that did not
make the playoffs was the Bengals. The only team that we loss by more
than one touchdown was the Bears, the other 3 teams that we loss to by more
than one score are ALL playing today. This team has a decision to
make. Seriously keeping Easterby after 2 Articles online, and your only
hall of fame player coming forward, is a recipe for disaster. Not
choosing Eric Bienemy could prove to be a move that not only causes Deshaun
Watson to leave, but I also think it could cause several prominent players in
the entire NFL to stand with him and send a message to the NFL that you will
not pacify us with commercials and donations and continue to treat this man who
is obviously extremely qualified to coach a team, certainly more than some of
these guys who landed head coaching jobs. As I reflect, relative to OB's
pressers, the comments about Colin Kaepernick, and actually bringing in Earl
Thomas for a visit, I think the problem has always been ownership and we put
quite a bit on his shoulders, that all he did was try to win. I know a
lot of people will disagree, but the actions just say different to me.
